What Can Wash Away My Sins?

The Bible teaches that when Jesus died on the Cross and shed His blood, all who believed in Him will have their sins forgiven. The blood of Jesus (stands for His death on the Cross) achieves two things:

(a) Expiation – this refers to the covering of sin. It focuses on us — the sinner and our guilt. The blood of Jesus covers our sin, puts away our transgression, remove our guilt and pardon our iniquity, as we trust in Him. “Blessed is the man whose transgressions have been forgiven, whose sins are covered.” (Psalm 32:1)

(b) Propitiation – this refers to the turning away of God’s wrath. It focuses on God — His anger towards sin and the sinner. When Jesus died on the Cross, God’s justice has been satisfied. Therefore, when a sinner comes to trust in Jesus, God’s anger towards that sinner has been turned away.

O precious is the flow, that makes me while as snow; No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus!

Friends, has the blood of Jesus covered your sin? Has it turned God’s wrath away from you? Imitate that tax-collector today. Cry out to Him, “God, be merciful to me, the sinner!”
