Navigating the new Website

Navigating the New Website

Welcome to the new Shalom Church website!

The new website is designed with three considerations in mind:

  1. Make it easy for members and visitors alike to find the information they need easily.
  2. Allow members and visitors to access the website via their mobile devices.
  3. Allow members to access and download materials for our worship together on the Lord’s Day.

So, the next question is: where can you find what you want?

The following guide will help you:

The Carousel

The Carousel

First, notice the images that are constantly rotating at the top of the main page. For simplicity’s sake, let’s call this section the “Carousel”. What you will find in the Carousel are the latest announcements that you need to be aware of. For example, we will put up announcements on a new RTBT (Read the Bible Together) or ACE (Adult Christian Education) series here. The large images are clickable, and clicking on them will take you to the relevant information under each announcement.

If you need to click on a particular image, but it has moved off the screen, there’s no need to wait for it to return. Simply click on the image of the announcement you want to click into on the right-hand side of the main image, and it will pop back in. Then, all you have to do is click on the main image to read the announcement.

Next, you will see the “Announcements” section. What’s usually here are ongoing events that you need to be aware of, e.g. when the next Members’ meeting or Baptism service will be. You will also be able to easily access the Sermons archive from here. Last, but not least, is the “Latest News” section directly under the “Announcements” section. Events that have a short duration will be displayed here.

Let’s now move over to the right-hand side of the same page. This is called the “sidebar”, and will contain information that are of a more permanent nature. Therefore, what you will find here are our service times, a calendar of events, a link to Shalom Christian Media (SCM) and, finally, easy access to the current RTBT materials.

In future, we plan to allow you to download the Calendar of Events to your Google calendar, so you are always updated on church events.

That’s good, but where do I find the previous church and church leaders’ conferences?

Fret not, they are available on the new website as well. As mentioned, we have categorized the information at the old website and arranged them here for easy access. Scroll up to the top of the page, and notice the three menu items directly above and to the right of the Carousel.

You should see three menu items: Shalom Distinctives, Events, and The Gospel.

Shalom Distinctives. This is where you can find out more about the church by simply hovering your mouse over the menu item. Under this menu item are the following items:

  • Who we are
  • Our Statement of Faith
  • The 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith

Events. This is where you will find the archives of church conferences, church leaders’ conferences and other conferences and events that Shalom Church has organized or taken part in. In fact, the Church Conferences are further categorized by year, so if you hold your mouse over the menu item “Church Leaders’ Conference”, you will see the various CLC over the years. Clicking on any of them will bring you to the archives for that particular year where you can listen to or download the messages. All audio files are in the MP3 format. To save any audio file, you will need to right-click on it, then select “Save As…”.

The Gospel. What is the church without the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?

How do I navigate back to the Home Page?

breadcrumbs

The “breadcrumbs”

At the top of every page will be a “breadcrumb” – a navigational tool to help you determine which part of the website you are at, and to access different categories and the Home Page easily. An example of a breadcrumb is in the illustration on the right. In this example, you can go back to the Home Page by simply clicking on the “Home” link.

Right, now that you are more familiar with the new website, we hope that you will find it useful and a valuable resource. If you have further inquiries on the website or suggestions, please feel free to approach brothers Oon Kean and Isaiah Chua.
